Helene Langevin, MD, Joins the Osher Collaborative with New Role at University of Vermont
The Osher Collaborative for Integrative Health is proud to welcome back Helene M. Langevin, MD, a national leader in integrative health, as she assumes the role of Director of Research at the Osher Center for Integrative Health at the University of Vermont. In this new position, Dr. Langevin will lead the development of a robust, transdisciplinary research agenda aligned with the missions of both the Osher Center and the Osher Collaborative.
Dr. Langevin recently announced her retirement as Director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she oversaw a $170 million annual research portfolio focused on whole-person health, positive health processes, and pain management.
“Dr. Langevin is a visionary who has long recognized that an integrative, whole-health approach can improve health outcomes while reducing costs for individuals, communities, and the healthcare system overall,” said Cara Feldman-Hunt, MA, NBC-HWC, Director of the Osher Center at the University of Vermont.
This appointment marks a “coming home” for Dr. Langevin, who began her academic career at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine as a professor of neurological sciences. From 2012 to 2018, she served as Director of the Osher Center for Integrative Health, jointly based at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where she played a pivotal role in advancing the goals of the Osher Collaborative.
“Dr. Langevin has long been an inspiring presence in the field of integrative health—from her leadership of Harvard’s Osher Center to her thoughtful stewardship at NCCIH. We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside her again and delighted to welcome her back into the Osher Collaborative,” said Shelley Adler, PhD, Director of the Osher Collaborative Coordinating Center.
In addition to her new role at the University of Vermont, Dr. Langevin will serve as a Senior Advisor on Scientific Communications at the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health (ACIMH), the world’s most comprehensive community dedicated to advancing whole health. In this capacity, she will help amplify the science of integrative medicine, whole health research, and positive health processes through strategic communications.
A transformational leader in integrative health research, Dr. Langevin will continue advancing the field through her work at the University of Vermont and across the eleven Osher Centers worldwide.
