The Parkinson’s Disease Movement and Disorders Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, together offer a rotating 12-week course in Tai Chi for Parkinson’s Disease.
The MBSR program was created more than 30 years ago by The Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (by Jon Kabat-Zinn and assisted by Saki Santorelli and their able staff). The program teaches you powerful methods for reducing stress and learning to actively participate in your health and well-being. Two decades of published research indicate that the majority of people who complete our Program report:
- An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations
- An increased ability to relax
- A more stable, centered perspective from which to observe life’s ups and downs
- Lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms
- Reduction in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with pain
The Osher Clinical Center offers a number of medical and non-pharmaceutical approaches to headache management. We have a unique environment where clinicians of multiple specialties can work side-by-side to collaborate and individualize care plans for a patient’s specific needs. We also have unique team of clinicians who are open to investigating various treatment approaches that are not often part of conventional medical headache management.
The Osher Clinical Center offers a series of three workshops using multiple clinicians and integrative therapies and modalities to manage headaches. The goal is to help reduce the pain and the suffering associated with chronic headache disorders.
The Osher Clinical Center (OCC) offers Hatha Yoga instruction both individually and in small group classes. Classes emphasize health awareness using gentle movements, breathing, and relaxation. These classes present hatha yoga as a practice for each student to learn how to directly optimize his/her innate ability to feel better–for finding solutions within, rather than to wait for them to be delivered from outside ourselves. Good yoga practice allows us to use natural movements to safely release tension, expand and sharpen our self-awareness, and learn about ourselves.
