UCSF CME Course on Integrative Oncology: Approaches for Enhancing Patient-Centered Palliative and Supportive Care

Event University of California, San Francisco

This online course takes an evidence-based view of integrative oncology and will address core areas of a patient-centered approach to supportive and palliative cancer care, including nutrition, mind and body practices, acupuncture, and physical activity. Presenters and panelists will review key evidence and focus on national practice guidelines in developing integrative treatment plans for cancer patients during active treatment and in post-treatment survivorship.

Integrative oncology is a patient-centered, evidence-informed field of cancer care that utilizes mind and body practices, natural products, and/or lifestyle modifications from different traditions alongside conventional cancer treatments. Integrative oncology aims to optimize health, quality of life, and clinical outcomes across the cancer care continuum and to empower people to prevent cancer and become active participants before, during, and beyond cancer treatment (Witt, et al. JNCI 2017).

This course is designed for a variety of practitioners including oncologists (medical, surgical, or radiation), palliative care specialists, generalists who commonly care for cancer patients, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and dieticians/nutritionists.
